However, the nation develops with competing visions of territorial expansion and morality. Secondly, a divided America suffers a catastrophic but metamorphic Civil War that ends the evil of slavery. Afterward, a resurgent America leads the Industrial Revolution. Consequently, the ascendant nation becomes a world power and intervenes in World War I. But, when fascism and communism vie to control the planet, ascendant Americans must unite to and face World War II.

Thus, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt must overcome heated debate at home. Firstly, he ends the traditional American debate between expansionism and morality by combining both impulses to fight the Axis Powers. Secondly, he forms an extraordinary coalition between government and media. FDR and his colleagues define and communicate American exceptionalism. Moreover, FDR and Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom define visionary war aims with the Atlantic Charter and then the United Nations Declaration. Furthermore, young Americans proved their true exceptionalism on the battlefield. Among the key prominent figures that FDR brings together are George C. Marshall, Wendell Willkie, Elmer Davis, Robert Sherwood, Nelson Rockefeller, Walt Disney, David Sarnoff, William Paley, John Ford, Edward Steichen, and many others.

Consequently, the wartime coalition of an ascendant government and media is remarkable. Furthermore, it encompasses the entire public and private sectors of America to win World War II. Then, ascendant America creates a liberal democratic postwar world economic, cultural, and social order. Harry Truman succeeds FDR. Meanwhile, the wartime alliance of convenience with the Soviet Union comes apart. Therefore, America rebuilds the world and contains communism. Furthermore, among the major achievements are the Marshall Plan, Berlin Airlift, and establishment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. However, lost opportunities include China and the tragedy of Vietnam. But Americans land on the moon. Finally, the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact are intelligently contained and then liquidated although America must face different threats in a new century. In conclusion, America can continue to lead with genuine exceptionalism, which is neither revisionist leftist cancel-culture or America First conservative isolationism.
